RTF Planes: The Easiest Way to Get Into an RC Plane
RTF planes are remote controlled airplanes that are "ready to fly". They are preassembled and usually only require that you set the wings in place. Although they are available in both electric or gas versions and the choice is up to you, it is easier for novics to learn with electric planes that use battery power because they are much easier to control than a nitro fueled plane. Electric RC planes are slower than nitro planes, but this is an advantage when you are learning to fly RC craft. They are also cheaper and many newbies find them more appealing for this reason. Nitro RC planes are fueled with a mixture of oil and fuel and require more ancillary equipment.
Electric RTF planes are also fairly quiet and environmentally friendly. They are easy to learn and do not necessarily require a dedicated and organized flying field. For this reason, they are commonly called park flyers.
So if you've ever wanted to get into the RC plane hobby, consider an RTF electric plane to get introduced. After you've mastered the electric RTF plane, you will be well on your way to more challenges with the higher powered nitro RC planes.
